Mic Gillette: Trumpet, Trombone, Flugelhorn
Mic Gillette rejoined Tower of Power in August of 2009. Mic replaced "Iron" Mike Bogart on trumpet, flugelhorn, and trombone. Gillette's association with the band actually began in 1967 as Emilio Castillo's bandmate in the Gotham City Crimefighters, Black Orpheus, The Motowns, and ultimately Tower of Power. Working with Tower from the beginning, until January 1, 1984, Mic Gillette helped to create the unique sound that TOP is famous for.
When Mic Gillette stopped touring with Tower of Power in 1984, he made a conscious decision to stay home to be a full-time father to his newborn daughter, Megan. In the 25 years that have passed, Mic has remained actively involved in the music business, as well as being an educator. His musical bio includes live appearances with Santana, Cold Blood, Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Doobie Brothers, and Sons of Champlin as well as many recordings.
Mic Gillette has longtime ties to Tower of Power as one of the original members of the horn section. As luck would have it, he was available to take over the position vacated by Mike Bogart. Mic Gillette rejoined Tower of Power at the band's annual appearance at the San Mateo Fair in August of 2009.
In Mic's own words, "I swore I would never do this again, but my family and I are very happy about it. I've had a wonderful reception from the band and from the fans. I'm gonna give it my best, the only way I know how. I'm pretty sure my dad is smiling."
It's pretty special to have someone back with the band who has such a long history playing the music of Tower of Power.
